Trip to Valparai and Sholayar Dam

We are three friends who started a journey from Udumalai Pet (Town in Tamil Nadu, India) in September 2021 towards Sholayar Dam. With two bikes, we set off at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at Aliyar Dam around 8.20 a.m. From Udumalai to Aliyar you will have the wonderful scenery of Coconut farms all along the road. You can visit a park in Aliyar, but we avoided it because we had already been there. There will lot of shops near to park where you can get some snacks and tea before climbing up the hills.
There will be a forest check post in the place called Arivu Thirukoil straight after Aliyar Dam towards Valparai where we need to get a ticket for the person, vehicle and camera.

We opted to have breakfast in Attakatti, which is 15 kilometres from Aliyar. With some photo shooting, it took approximately 40 minutes to get to Attakatti. We began our drive towards Sholayar Dam after breakfast. We stopped for tea and photos in the middle. In the afternoon, we reached Sholayar Dam.
If you planned to visit Sholayar dam, don't expect any big hotels but surely you will get some good snacks (fresh fish will be available in shops where they cook and give you them immediately), don't miss the bread omelette from nearby shops which is very tasty. If you drive to the end of the small bridge towards Athirapalli falls, you will get a full view of the dam and there are a lot of photo shooting places available and water coming through that slope nearly 85 degrees is such a beauty.

After taking photos at Sholayar dam we continued towards Valparai which is nearly 30 km from Sholayar. On the way, you’ll pass through the dam area’s water body, which stretches for about 8 kilometres down the road and provides a stunning photo opportunity. Following that, it’s all tea estates.

In the Valparai you may plan to stay because there are a lot of hotels and lodges are available. But we planned for one day trip so we didn’t stay there. we bought some Tea, Green Tea and coffee powders from factory outlets which are good in quality. Finally, we reached home at 7:00 PM with a lot of memories and travel experiences.

Public transports are available to Valparai from Pollachi, Coimbatore, Udumalai pet, etc.
